The Art of the Dueling Sabre, by Christopher Holzman

NOW IN STOCK! Rooted in the duel and the traditions of cavalry and designed for serious combat, Giuseppe Radaelli’s sabre method revolutionized sabre instruction and paved the way for modern sabre fencing. Christopher Holzman offers the first translation of the classic book on Radaelli’s method and adds a thorough and practical course adapted to modern conditions. Modern fencers will recognize it as the immediate ancestor of their sport and a source of still-fresh insights; historical fencers will salute the highest development of the art and science of serious sabre combat. There are ten beautiful 81/2” x 211/2” tipped-in plates, as well as a glossary and an unusually thorough synoptic table of offensive, defensive, and counteroffensive actions and exercises.

CHRISTOPHER A. HOLZMAN’S fencing lineage goes back through Ted Hootman and Giorgio and Italo Santelli to the roots of Hungarian and Italian sabre fencing and indeed to Radaelli himself. He is a practitioner of both historical and modern fencing, a fencing instructor with the rank of Moniteur in the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association. He holds a B.A. in Latin from Wichita State University and is a practicing attorney in Wichita, Kansas.
